BH Green Conservation Program

At BH, we don’t just talk about going green. We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and creating homes that are both financially and ecologically sustainable. Our industry-renowned Green Conservation Program deploys water and energy-saving measures including water-efficient fixtures, energy-saving appliances, LED lighting, solar screens, and irrigation systems and has reduced water costs by 30% and water usage by 28% since October 2017. We strive to practice conservation measures including reducing waste, recycling, and using recycled products.

Green Initiatives

BH is committed to reducing our water and energy usage and have the following initiatives underway:

BH has achieved a return on investment of 54% on all water and energy savings projects.  Projects have been completed in 15 states and at 93 active properties.

Through BH’s irrigation management program with Banyan Water, 12 properties were able to save 84,803,000 gallons of water in three years, which is the equivalent of 4,240 pools or the average annual water consumption of 968 Americans.

Water conservation and energy programs are saving an average of $146 per unit per year and 18,318 gallons per unit per year (the equivalent of a swimming pool) and 1,447 kWh per unit per year.

In the Dallas, TX market, savings are as high as $158 per unit. Silverbrook, a 642-unit apartment complex in Dallas saw a reduction in costs of $365,645 or $570 per unit per year after installing low-flow faucets and showerheads. They saved 55,383 gallons per unit (or the equivalent of two large pools). The property achieved a return on investment of 144%.

In the Atlanta, GA market, properties that installed toilets, low flow faucets, and showerheads were able to save $170 per unit. The Adair, a 232-unit apartment complex in Marietta, saw a reduction in costs of $399 per unit per year after installing toilets, low flow faucets, and showerheads, and a return on investment of 75%.

Overall, we have seen a 30% reduction in cost and a 28% reduction in water usage for water savings projects with Ecosystems since October 2017.

Water savings projects can include installing low-flow faucets, showerheads, toilets, dishwashers, and washing machines and implementing water-efficient sensor-based irrigation systems.

Energy savings projects can include installing LED lighting, energy-efficient refrigerators, and A/C units, pool covers, solar screens, energy-efficient windows, and installing insulation and sealing leaks.
